Week 13: Silver Lake Terraces East
July 26, 2015Secret Stairs #24: Silver Lake Terraces East, 2 miles, 762 steps.
A real gasper of a climb through the hills above Spaceland on Silver Lake Blvd. The riser pictured below is 108 steps in a single flight, straight up without handrails. Whew! The bonus of touring Los Angeles from the sidewalk up—an education in local architecture. Note the porthole window on the front door of this moderne home and its twin house next door, both built in 1936-37 by William Kesling, the "Rogue Architect of Streamline Moderne." Our treat at the end of the hike: iced coffee and mocha at LAMILL.
