Secret Walks #12: Bronson Canyon & the Bat Cave, 1 mile

Barbara and I couldn't resist exclaiming "To the Bat Cave!" at the start of our hike this morning. A short trek through lovely Bronson Canyon Park in the heart of the Hollywood hills led us up to the craggy and remote wilderness that served as a quarry in 1903, and then became a popular western and sci-fi movie and TV setting from the early days of Hollywood to the present—most notably, the entrance to the Bat Cave in the 1966-68 Batman TV series. Nostalgia hit hard as we came around a corner and spotted the cave. A sight so familiar, I could almost see the Bat Mobile speeding out of the entrance. I'm not going to spoil the illusion—if you want to see the interior of the cave, take a hike!
