Week 41 - Lake Balboa
April 24, 2016Secret Walks #28: Lake Balboa, 1.75 miles
This morning a time crunch detoured Barbara and me over to the Sepulveda Dam area for a sneak peek into Fleming's Secret Walks. A new experience for us, but not for the multitude of locals on their morning hike. We circled the 27-acre artificial lake, and in addition to the usual mix of dog-walkers and joggers we meet on neighborhood hikes, the 24-hour residents of Balboa Lake boldly approached us with honks, quacks, and wing flaps. So freaking cool, and in the middle of the SF Valley! My knowledge of water fowl names leans more toward Donald Duck's family than to real ornithology; I had to look up our new friends' formal names when I got home.Pictured below in order: Black Cormorants on the pedal boat dock, Egyptian Geese comin' to say 'hello', American Coots in the lake, and a bold but camera shy White Goose. Fun morning at the park.
