Secret Stairs #30: Franklin Hills East—Lyric Loop, 2.9 miles, 908 steps

A delightful morning hike to celebrate the first day of Spring. Although a cloud cover hid the sun, whispers of fragrant jasmine, wisteria, and orange blossom accompanied us along streets and staircases lined with explosions of colorful bougainvillea and azaleas in full bloom. A small Silver Lake neighborhood facing east over Hyperion Blvd.and west over the beginning of Sunset Boulevard (pic 1.) We walked past homes in every architectural flavor and size built on the side of hills for killer views. The staircases—ten in all!—were built in the early 1920s and still in good shape. The few overgrown with foliage stirred the adventurer in us—we never knew what was on the other side. But that's the point, isn't it? A fun piece of nostalgia for me—I set two Hex on the Ex scenes on Hyperion in this neighborhood.
